It is duty of any owner or any occupied or unoccupied property to cut the weeds and remove the cutting or any accumulation of weeds as often necessary in order to comply with the provisions in the City Ordinance. This includes the area located between the property line and the middle of the alley adjacent to the property, and the area located between the property line and the curb, any group of high weeds, or any accumulation of weeds.

City Ordinance defined weeds as all rank, noxious, poisonous, harmful, unhealthy vegetation, deleterious to health, and shall include, but is not limited to, the following names plant families: Mustard Weeds, Pigweeds, Russian thistle, Ragweeds, Kochia.

The property owner will need to contact the Code Enforcement Office to determine what steps are needed to remediate the violation. The City Code Enforcement Officer will work with the property owner to a reasonable extent, if the property owner fails to take action then it will be turned over to the City Attorney for legal action that may include filing of a criminal complaint with Municipal Court with a lien placed on the property.
Weed overgrowth are not only known for allergies but are also hazardous to individuals and pets on the premises. Overgrowth of weeds due to irregular maintenance can lead to hazards that include: providing breeding grounds and shelters for rats, mice, snakes, mosquitoes, and other vermin; insects and pests; fire hazards; further weed growth; potential hiding of other hazards such as debris that could may cause injury or harm to individuals on the property.
