Your Gallup Firefighters received a special visitor today at Station #1. Chaplain Al "Ironman Grandpa" Slusser stopped by for a visit on his way to Tucumcari. In 2009 Chaplain Al walked from the West Coast to the East Coast (3188 miles!) to honor the sacrifice of our Military Personnel. It appears that wasn't enough of a challenge so he then walked another 2100 miles from South Florida to Canada. In addition, he has walked the entire length and width of his home state of Arizona! What an amazing, inspirational man. At 80 years old, and not one to slowdown, Chaplain Al now travels from town to town by vehicle to pray for First Responders: Active Military, Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical and Emergency Services Personnel. Your Gallup Firefighters are thrilled to have had the chance to spend some time conversing with Chaplain Al and appreciate him taking the time to spend with us and share his inspiring story and message. Safe travels, sir.
