Ordinance No. C2021-6; An Ordinance Approving a New Redistricting Plan for the Four (4) Council Districts of the City of Gallup
Based on the public presentations and discussions that have been conducted during the past two weeks, we are now at a point where a final redistricting plan may be selected and used to establish the district boundaries for all four Council districts. The City’s consultant, New Mexico Demographic Research, LLC, has prepared four plans which include three initial plans, Plans A, B and C, and the plan entitled "Gallup Plan Developed During November 10 Council Workshop." A proposal was also submitted by the Office of the Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission, which was presented at the November 10th work session. All five plans comply with the principles and guidelines for redistricting and are based on the data from the 2020 U.S. Census. Once selected, the new redistricting plan will be used beginning with the Municipal Officer Election on March 1, 2022 and will remain in effect until a new redistricting plan is adopted after the next federal decennial census.
The population data for the "Gallup Plan Developed During November 10 Council Workshop" will be provided prior to the meeting.
