Information Technology Services

The Information Technology Services Division comprises the Information Technology (IT) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) departments.

The IT department selects, deploys, and operates computer and network technology throughout the City's facilities. The division staff of technicians and programmers maintains over 250 workstations and the City's IBM AS/400 mainframe. In addition, the division operates the telecommunications system and fulfills the City's local-area and wide-area networking needs. The division also staffs a help desk to assist end-users with email, network, and application software support.

The GIS department identifies, collects, and maintains critical geographic data within the City. GIS combines data such as utilities, infrastructure, buildings, land records, geographic features, topography, demographics, and others in a helpful way to government and community leadership. GIS data is an essential resource for economic development. GIS data is used in several city departments, including General Services, Utilities, Planning, Public Works, and the City Attorney's Office. Our GIS Division also works with its McKinley County GIS Division counterparts.
