Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy
With nearly 280 sunny days on average each year, Gallup has an abundance of renewable solar energy resources. Customers interested in utilizing solar energy can take advantage of our net metering program. Net Metering measures the difference between the electricity you buy from the utility and the electricity you generate using your renewable generating equipment. Want to see more information, click on these documents: Commercial Net Metering Renewable Resource Generating System.pdf or Residential Net Metering Renewable Resource Generating System.pdf.

Customer who wish to “grid-tie” their Renewable Resource Generating System (RRGS) should visit or call (505) 863-1289, or email us for more information. Gallup Solar is another great local resource for solar energy information.

Take a look at our New REFRIGERATOR Rebate Application and program. ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators use less energy and help us reduce our impact on the environment. By properly recycling your old refrigerator and replacing it with a new Energy Star certified refrigerator, you can save between $35 - $300 on energy costs over its lifetime. Use the ENERGY STAR Savings Calculator to find out exactly how much money you'll save by replacing your existing refrigerator. This rebate will be in effect until June 30, 2022.

Persons with an interest in sustainable energy and keeping Gallup Clean and Beautiful may wish to get involved with the:

Keep Gallup Clean & Beautiful (KGCB)
Meetings will begin 4:00 to 5:00pm every 3rd Friday of each month
on ZOOM and at the Solid Waste Building to inspire community members to take action every day to improve, beautify, and provide education about our local environment.   For information and agendas, please email Elizabeth.

Water Conservation

Gallup's high desert location means that water is a very precious resource. Presently, we are dependent solely upon groundwater for our supply and it is a finite resource that is dwindling. The aquifers that serve the Gallup area have seen a two-hundred foot drop in the last 10 years. The Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project will offer us a reliable source of water once it arrives around 2026, but water conservation will always be important for our community.

If you have any water conservation questions please call the city's Water Conservation Coordinator, Elizabeth Barriga at (505) 863-1393 or send an email.
