Helpful Tips for Winter

Get ready for cold winter weather with some helpful tips, courtesy of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

  • Pipe wrap, “heat tape”
  • Sprinkler system shut down and drain
  • Open sink cabinets, to let warm air reach pipes
  • Never turn the heat off when leaving the house (55 degrees is recommended)
  • Let faucets drip during extreme weather, water is less likely to freeze when it’s moving. It can also help to reduce pressure if it does freeze.
For more tips, download the AWWA brochure.
